Chloe Sasson

dwayne omarrMULTI FUNK (Rephlex/Inertia)RATING: 4/5Growing up in Boston, and fast mastering a multitude of analogue and electronicinstruments, Omarr has spent years behind the scenes as a master producer. Now, with his debut album, many will be wondering why he took so long. In what is a fantastic homage to the age of Afrika Bambaataa, and the electrofunk-fuelled Planet Rock era, Omarr has created a brilliant mix of classic 80s electro and hip-hop funk. Breakdown New York Style with its classic vinyl scratching, robotelectro vocals and synthesised melodies will take many back to the 1980s block parties. Elsewhere, tracks such as Multi Funk, with fresh breakbeats and electro-rock riffs, willrecall the days of Kurtis Blow and the Sugarhill Gang.
